Jane L. Caples

Jane L. Caples, 63, of Syracuse passed away on May 12, 2026.

For twelve years, Jane dedicated herself to home health care, a career through which she expressed her innate kindness and commitment to others. Her nurturing nature was evident not only in her profession but also in the way she lived each day with warmth and concern for family, friends, and even her cherished feline companions—Smokey, Sassy, and Tom Tom.

Jane’s love of life was beautifully eclectic. She took great pleasure in exploring various restaurants, savoring the simple joy of sharing meals. Equally, she delighted in crafting wristwatches, necklaces, and bracelets—handmade treasures she lovingly gave to others, sharing a piece of herself through each creation. Her musical tastes were broad and deep, reflecting a soul attuned to many rhythms and harmonies.

Despite facing illness, Jane’s caring spirit never wavered. She remained focused on the well-being of those she loved, embodying a selflessness that touched all who knew her. Time with her family was precious, and she valued every moment spent with her husband, Dave Caples; her daughter, Melissa Sweeting; and her grandchildren, Ceianna, Devin, Juvier, and Janeeya; as well as her three great-grandchildren. Jane’s familial bonds were further enriched by her sisters, Carol Burns and Laurie Farrell; and the many nieces and nephews who were fortunate to have her in their lives.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Michael Burns and Doris Watson; and her sister, Dianna Burns. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story.

A visitation to honor Jane’s life will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St., Syracuse, NY 13212, on May 21, 2026, from 4pm until 6:30 pm, with a service at 6:30 pm.

The burial service will take place the following day on May 22, at 10am, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 800 Grant Boulevard, Syracuse, NY 13203, concluding at 11am.

Jane L. Caples leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering care. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor to know her. May her gentle spirit rest in eternal peace.
