Jerome “Jerry” S. Bonk, 89, of Cicero, New York, passed away on February 18, 2026. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, folk artist, craftsman, and lifelong creator.

Jerry was the beloved husband of Rose Marie (Mattiacio) Bonk, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in family and devotion to one another. He is survived by his four sons, Jerry (Christine), Jeff (Kathleen), Ron (Holly), and Noel (Jennifer), as well as his sisters, Patricia Kullowitch and Belle Lehman of Florida. He was also the proud grandfather and great-grandfather of many grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Bonk; his brother, Robert Bonk; and his sisters, Jo-Ann Miller and Sue Mindak.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hornet as an aviation ordnanceman and firefighter and later re-enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Hancock Air Force Base with the 4624th Support Squadron in Syracuse, New York, he met Rose, marking the beginning of a life together that would span more than six decades.

A man of curiosity and creativity, Jerry had a lifelong passion for art and photography. He was a highly regarded antique dealer and award-winning folk artist, known for his keen eye, encyclopedic knowledge, and respect for craftsmanship and history. Jerry also developed his own unique methods for restoring paintings and took great pride in working with his hands. Over the years, he created numerous pieces of furniture, paintings, baskets, hooked rugs, and countless one-of-a-kind crafts, each reflecting his skill and appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. In his retirement, he also volunteered his time at Florida-area animal shelters.

Jerry valued time spent with those he loved, took pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments, and quietly passed down his creativity, work ethic, and appreciation of learning. His legacy lives on not only in the folk art he created and the memories he preserved, but also in the lives of those he loved.
