Jewell D. Gionet of North Syracuse, passed away recently at the age of 88. Jewell was born on her family farm on October 12, 1935 in Guston, Kentucky, daughter of Lester and Nona Lucas.
She moved to the Syracuse area in 1954. Jewell was a long-standing member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. Jewell loved rummage sales and birds-her favorite being the red cardinal. She was also an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and watched them as often as she could, but most of all she loved her large family.
Jewell dedicated her life to her husband and children. She was a loving grandmother of fifteen, great-grandmother of sixteen, and great-great grandmother of two and a good friend to many. She has many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Gionet, whom she married in 1954 and her son, Patrick. She is survived by five of her six children, Paul (Ann) of Liverpool, Greg (Cheryl) of Tampa, Florida, Geoffrey of Hudson, Florida, Katherine Dalla-Costa (Mike) of Havelock, North Carolina and Cheryl (Brian) Hubbard of Hudson, Florida.
She is survived by one sister, Dot Goins of Kentucky and predeceased by her three other sisters, Shirley Whelan, Ruby Wright, Thelma Humphrey, and her brother, Wilmer Lucas.
