Joanna M. Janiak

Joanna M. Janiak (Franke), passed away on January 8, 2026. She was born on March 16, 1950 in Washington, DC to John C. and Agnes M. Franke. She graduated from UrsuLine Academy High School in Bethesda, MD in June of 1968.

Joanna, already being an accomplished ballet dancer, a well recognized equestrian and a competitive swimmer for the Takoma Swim Club in Washington DC, went on to complete her undergraduate degree at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications, as well as remaining active in dance disciplines.

Working in various capacities in television, radio, and theater, Joanna also opened her own dance studio called Dance Dynamics. She taught students of all ages, as well as choreographing performances for both her students and herself as a solo artist.

Joanna was an idealistic free spirit with a great love for animals having many dogs and cats throughout her life.

Joanna is survived by her brother, John and his wife Kathleen, their daughter, Lisa Agnos and Lisa’s children, Ryan, Alyssa, and Cassie Agnos.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 4-7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanna‘s memory to the Humane Association of CNY.
