Joanne M. Bockeno, 81, a loving, caring and kind soul, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the Bishop Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse, NY. Born on May 22, 1945, in Tupper Lake, NY, Joanne devoted her life to the service of others and brought warmth and comfort to many through her generous heart and thoughtful actions.
Throughout her life, Joanne demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her community, most notably dedicating much of her time to St. Lucy's Church, where she tirelessly helped those in need. She had a special gift for knitting, lovingly creating clothes for the babies at Crouse Hospital—an act that spoke volumes about her nurturing spirit. Additionally, she donated countless hours to support the homeless, exemplifying her deep compassion and kindness.
Joanne’s family and friends stood at the center of her world. She is survived by her three daughters, Kristen Bockeno, Danielle Bockeno, and Ann Margaret; six cherished grandchildren; Marissa, Michael, Felicia, Jonathan, Robert, and Ashley her brother, Robert (Gail) Fromaget; her sisters, Shirley Fromaget and her twin sister, Joan Fromaget; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember her gentle nature and generous heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Bockeno; her beloved parents, Adelard and Elizabeth Fromaget; her son, Michael Fromaget; and two sisters, Gloria Schoemaker and Patricia Dufraine.
A visitation to honor and remember Joanne’s life will be held on June 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at the same location from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Joanne’s legacy of love, kindness, and selfless service will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle hands and warm spirit touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to inspire acts of compassion within her community. Though she has left this world, the light she kindled will forever shine brightly.
