John D. Deisz Sr., 74, of North Syracuse, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by family. John was born in Syracuse, New York, on December 18, 1950, to Robert and Florence Deisz.
As a lifelong Syracuse area resident, John dedicated more than 50 years to serving Onondaga County. After attending Onondaga Community College, he earned multiple certifications in communications, law enforcement, and public safety. He began his career in 1975 as a Public Service Dispatcher at the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. Between 1976 and 1980, he also worked part-time as a police officer with the Village of Liverpool and the Town of Cicero, as well as a dispatcher for the Baldwinsville Police Department. He continued his service as a dispatcher with the Sheriff’s Office until 1992, when the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications / 911 Center opened. There, he rose through the ranks to become the first civilian Supervising Emergency Dispatcher. Throughout his career, John received numerous accolades for his dedication and service. After retiring as a Supervisor of Dispatch Operations in 2008, he continued contributing part-time as a Public Safety Dispatcher in the Office of Audio Reviews.
In his free time, John enjoyed golf, spending time in nature, and long, relaxing drives with no destination in mind. He also cherished being with family and friends; nothing made John happier than spending quality time with loved ones.
John is survived by his six children, John Deisz Jr., Jennifer Arslan, Sean (Mia) Deisz, Kimberly (Chris) Estrada, Jamie (Cathy) Deisz, and Melanie Deisz; 10 grandchildren, Troy, Abbie, Brennah, Bailey, Christopher, Nicholas, Daniel, Alex, Alyssa, and Ashley; two great-granddaughters, Ivyanna and Nashlynn; brother, Robert L. Deisz (Dr. Joan Vivona, MD); sister, Mary (David) Besig; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Florence Deisz, as well as his brother, Lawrence Deisz.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at North Syracuse Cemetery.
