John D. Deisz Sr., 74, of North Syracuse, passed away on Monday October 13, 2025 surrounded by family. John was born in Syracuse, New York on December 18, 1950 to Robert and Florence Deisz.
As a lifelong Syracuse area resident, John served Onondaga County for 50+ years. He graduated from Onondaga Community College and went on to obtain multiple certifications in communications, law enforcement and public safety. He started his career serving the public as a police officer for the Town of Cicero and the Village of Liverpool. He later worked for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in the Mobile Radio District from 1975 until 1992 when the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications / 911 Center opened. He rose through the ranks to become the first civilian Supervising Emergency Dispatcher. During this time, he received multiple accolades. Once he retired in 2008, he continued to work part time as a Public Safety Dispatcher in the Office of Audio Reviews. In his free time, John enjoyed playing golf, took pleasure in spending time in nature and loved spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his six children, John Deisz, Jr., Jennifer Arslan, Sean (Mia) Deisz, Kimberly (Chris) Estrada, Jamie (Cathy) Deisz, Melanie Deisz; 10 grandchildren, Troy, Abbie, Brennah, Bailey, Christopher, Nicholas, Daniel, Alex, Alyssa, Ashley; two great granddaughters, Ivyanna and Nashlynn; brother Robert Deisz (Joan Vivona); sister, Mary (David) Besig and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Florence Deisz, as well as his brother, Larry Deisz.
Visitation will be held on Monday October 20, 2025 from 11am-1pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services at 1pm. Burial will follow at North Syracuse Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Francis House in John’s memory.
