John Grow, 64, aka Johnny G, Jamo Johnny, passed away on September 29, 2025.
John was intelligent and thoughtful. He was full of useless information and was more than willing to share what he knew with anyone who would listen. He thrived on telling stories about life, reminiscing about the "old days", hanging out with friends, and was always there to lend a helping hand.
In his younger years, he was an outstanding athlete, excelling in baseball and football. He was almost unstoppable in high school wrestling. John was an avid sports fan rooting for the N.Y. Yankees, the N.Y. Giants, and SU. (although he could give the stats for any team or player). John even went on to coach kids in football and baseball.
John was also a fan of classic rock music, worshipping the Beatles. He wouldn't hesitate to play a 17-minute-long song to have some music playing while he discussed sports, current events, trivia topics, or the weather.
John was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Yasuko (Yoko) Grow. And the love of his life, Lynn LaBrake, who passed away in 1996.
John grew up in North Syracuse with his three brothers: Thomas, Michael, and Patrick.
He is survived by his longtime friend and caretaker, Nikki Kimball, as well as many other loving friends and family members.
John was a good friend to many and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mug Shotz, his happy place, located at 608 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212.
