Joseph Anthony Giannuzzi, born on March 5, 1950, in Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, mentorship, and professional excellence.

Joe dedicated over 30 years of his career to the Defense Contract Management Agency Office (DCMAO) in Syracuse, where he held the esteemed position of Chief of Software Operations. His contributions to the field were recognized widely, as evidenced by numerous letters of recognition throughout his tenure. In addition to his pivotal role at DCMAO, Joe imparted his knowledge as a lecturer at Carnegie Mellon for a year and made notable contributions to his area of expertise through published work.

Joe’s extensive educational journey began when he graduated from North Syracuse Central High School in 1968. He furthered his studies at SUNY Morrisville, earning an Associate of Science in Business Accounting in 1977, followed by a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Empire State College in 1993.

A proud veteran, Joe served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, receiving an honorable discharge. He also shouldered the title of a disabled veteran, an experience that undoubtedly shaped his resilient character and empathetic nature.

Joe was truly a man with a big heart and a quick wit, known for his generosity, often exemplified by his willingness to “give you the shirt off his back.” He cherished the moments spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe's love for sports was evident; he was an avid golfer, famously scoring a hole-in-one, and expressed great passion for watching games, particularly those of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. His talents extended to music as well, as he enjoyed playing the guitar, offering a glimpse into his creative spirit. Among Joe's proudest accomplishments were his endeavors in coaching. He guided children through Little League and Pop Warner Football, making significant impacts such as leading the Clay Panthers to their first-ever championship appearance. Many former players have reached out over the years, expressing gratitude for his influence in their lives, a testament to his lasting impact on the community.

Joe is survived by his loving family, including his daughter, Nathalie Wheatley; his son, Joseph (Tanya) Giannuzzi Jr.; his ex-wife, Christine Giannuzzi; his two granddaughters, Ava Giannuzzi and Elaina Giannuzzi; his brother, Robert Giannuzzi; as well as two nephews, Bobby and Rick Giannuzzi, and a niece, Angela Giannuzzi. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, three brothers-in-law, and mother-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Giannuzzi, and his mother, Jane. sister-in-law Vivian Giannuzzi, and great-nephew Aaron Giannuzzi.

Visitation services will be held on January 26, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N. Main St., Syracuse, NY 13212. With a service to follow at 7 pm. A burial service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.

Joseph Anthony Giannuzzi will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his profession, his warmth and kindness toward others, and his enduring love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
