Joseph F. Mayo Jr.

Joseph Francis Mayo, 76, of North Syracuse, passed away October 18, 2025. 

Joseph was born in Syracuse, New York on February 15, 1949 to the late Joseph and Angela Mayo. He was a Vietnam veteran. Following his military service, he worked for New Venture Gear until his retirement after 33 years. He was a lifetime member of the Mattydale VFW Post 3146 where he held multiple positions including senior vice commander, and a member of the honor guard/rifle team. He was active the Palermo Community Church. He enjoyed biking, tinkering/repurposing things, wood burning. Joe loved attending air shows and being a part of all veteran related events. He worked out at Champion Fitness with the Silver Sneakers Group. 

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Mayo; two daughters, Jennifer (Christopher) Lorusso, Jessica (Michael) Kearns; two step-sons, Charles DeLong, and Andrew DeLong; grandchildren, Naomi, Logan, Ava, Leah, Marshall, Zachariah, Connor, and Ainsley; sister, Cara Mayo; and nephews, Jared and Oren Gruber. 

A graveside service will take place Friday, 1:30pm at Assumption Cemetery. A celebration of life to follow at the Mattydale VFW Post 3146. Also a celebration of life will be held on Sunday the 26th at 1PM at Palermo Community Church.
