Josephine "Dolly" Cookinham, 93, of Buckley Landing, North Syracuse, passed away on April 23, 2026. Dolly was born in Syracuse, New York on October 9, 1932 to Joseph and Catherine Bertolero. She was a graduate of Canastota High School, class of 1951. Dolly was employed by Gaylords and Park Brannock, prior to becoming a mother. Dolly enjoyed going on day trips with her family, playing Bingo, watching Family Feud, and going out to eat, specifically Brooklyn Pickle and Cracker Barrel. She was the true matriarch of the family and spending time together was the most important. Dolly was a radiant woman that always had a smile on her face, even when things were hard. She made an impression on every person she came in contact with. She will truly be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cookinham; son, Jimmy Cookinham; parents, Joseph and Catherine Bertolero; and siblings, Gene, John and Domonic.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (BC Leonard) Cookinham; her pride and joy, her grandson, Gavin Leonard; brother, Carmen (Cindy) Bertolero; several nieces and nephews; and her favorite cat, Wilma.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 3-5PM, with a service to follow at 5PM, all at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. The burial will be held the following morning, Thursday, April 30, 2026, beginning at 10:30AM at New Comer. All will conclude at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Loretto Foundation.
