Listen to Obituary

Lucille Katherine Roop, 85, passed away on January 8, 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Manlius. Lucel, Loo, Lucy, Loocheel, and Aunt Cele were what she answered to but her first name was always “friend”.

Born on May 31, 1940 in Montpelier, VT, Lucille was the daughter of the late Harold and Frances Roop and sister of the late George and Harry. She was a graduate of Montpelier High School and Vermont College. After graduation she moved to Syracuse to work as an xray tech at the cardiac cath lab at Crouse Hospital until her retirement. Always the caregiver, she then volunteered at Francis House, a compassionate care facility home for those in the final months of life.

Lucille was a great athlete and a fierce competitor. She made so many cherished and lifelong friendships from the Mulligans Golf League, Nobody’s Softball Team, and skiing at Labrador Mountain.

She loved to travel, garden, and was a passionate fan of all Syracuse sports teams. She was a fashionista; she loved to shop and was always ready to find a great bargain. She never met an accessory or bright color she didn’t love.

As requested, there will be no services. She did insist on a celebration so a party will be held in the spring. The guests will be required to wear bright colors only and raise a glass to celebrate a true friend to so many.

Rest in peace Lucille, we hope you are walking with your beloved dog Duffy on the golf course in heaven.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Francis House (francishouseny.org) or In My Fathers Kitchen (inmyfatherskitchen.org) both organizations that support the Syracuse community which was her lifelong home.
