Margaret E. Soukup, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on December 2, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on December 11, 1935, in Syracuse, Margaret was known for her kind and loving personality, which endeared her to many in her community.
Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the clinics at Upstate Medical Center, where her commitment to service reflected her innate willingness to help others. A graduate of Vocational High School in Syracuse, she carried forward the values instilled in her during her education and family upbringing.
Margaret was deeply committed to her Catholic faith, which served as a guiding light throughout her life. She dedicated herself to her church community, volunteering at her church and singing in the church choir, efforts that highlighted her deep-seated belief in giving back. Additionally, she volunteered for Meal on Wheels for over 20 years, embodying her generous spirit and compassion for others.
Family was of utmost importance to Margaret, and her proudest accomplishment was being a steadfast supporter of each generation within her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Joe; her children, Daniel (Margy, deceased) Soukup, Thomas (Katie) Soukup, Wendy (Jerry) Monroe, Andrew (Karen) Soukup, and Elizabeth Taylor; her grandchildren, John, Matthew and Christopher Soukup, Karen (Brandon) Mutz, Erica Soukup, Laramie (Brian) Kennedy, Lucas (Cassie) Monroe, Hannah, Kate and Drew Soukup, Jamaica and Malcolm Taylor, Liz (Alex) Sabau and Daniel Bills; and her great-grandchildren, Forest Sabau, Declan and Hailee Mutz, Bella, Carter, and Landon Monroe, Avalene and Liam Kennedy. She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her warmth.
Margaret's final year was filled with joy, surrounded by family and friends and anchored in her faith. Her last days were beautified by a sunny family trip, and she held tightly to Joe's hand as they shared their final moments together. On her last day, with her family surrounding her, Margaret departed this world peacefully in the comfort of her own home.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle Frank, and her sisters, Janette Krentkowski, Dorothy Pfeiffer, Alice Mullen, and Shirley Wright.
She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Visitation will be held on December 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. A Mass will be celebrated in her honor on December 10, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Divine Mercy, 592 S Main St, Central Square, NY 13036. A burial service will follow at 1pm in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
