Maria H. Burns

On Friday, June 27, 2025, Maria H. (Schmitz) Burns, 90, of North Syracuse, passed away into glory to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Maria was a long-time attendee of The Gathering Place Church in North Syracuse, and later attended Grace Covenant Church, Clay, NY.

Born in Neuerburg, Germany, she is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Arthur L. Burns, her parents, Jakob and Susanna Schmitz, and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sons, James (Terri) Burns of North Syracuse and Dale (Vickey) Burns of Liverpool; her grandchildren, Nathaniel (Christina) Burns, Nicole (Nate) O'Donnell, Megan (Bryan) Whisman, Ian (Corina) Burns and Evan Burns; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, both in the US and Germany.

Maria was employed for many years at the North Syracuse Central School District. She loved spending time with her family, who enjoyed many lifetime stories around the table.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Covenant Church, Rt. 31, Clay, NY, on July 19th, at 11 am, where we'd love to share the story of Maria's life with all our friends and family.
