Marilyn A. Schaap

May 25, 1937 — August 2, 2025

Syracuse

Marilyn has been reunited with her Frankie and with the Lord.

Marilyn brought joy to everyone she met and loved to help people, strangers included. She adored her family and had a special relationship with Jesus (she wrote about the many miracles in her life). Marilyn had so many amazing gifts - drawing, painting, singing, and played several instruments over her lifetime, including the accordion, piano, fiddle, and dobro. She had a special talent of being a writer; wrote many songs, poems, stories and published two books with the assistance of her writers club.

Marilyn had some amazing adventures in her life. She grew up with four siblings, that she loved dearly, in North Syracuse. As a young teen, she stayed with her Grandmother for a while who lived in Florida. There, she met a woman who gave her her first bible, and introduced her to the Lord.

She met her Frank at 16 and the rest was history. They built a beautiful family in Clay and in 1978 went on the adventure of a lifetime and moved to Glendale, Arizona! During that time, she learned how to play the fiddle. She leaves behind many people in Arizona who are like family. She cared for a friend who was blind and even though she never really cared for driving, he convinced her she could handle driving an RV across the entire country!

Marilyn moved back to New York in 2005 to live out her final years close to her family. She held many jobs in her years, but the greatest job of all, was being a mom. She will be greatly missed by so many.

Marilyn is predeceased by her loving husband, Frank M. Schaap and her parents, Alvin Oscar and Lillian Bieling.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Cathy (David) Allen and Lisa (Donald) Mackey; two sons, David (Cindy) Schaap, Gary (Brenda) Schaap; six grandchildren, Jon, Gary, Jr., Justin, Malissa, Jacob, Joshua; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck (Sarah) Bieling and Lynford (Cathy) Bieling; sister, Carol (Gordon) Young; and sister-in-law, Beverly "Cookie" Downing.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 9-11:30AM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse. A funeral service will precede at 11:30AM. The burial will immediately follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. In memory of Marilyn, spread an act of kindness to those in your community, as Marilyn did for so many.
