Mark G. Askew

Mark G. Askew of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Mark was born on August 9, 1961 in Syracuse, New York to Katye Askew and the late Willie Askew. He spent his life in Syracuse, where he was known and loved by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mark found happiness in life's simple joys. He enjoyed watching television, especially cartoons, shopping, and playing tug of war with his stuffed animals. His gentle spirit, warm heart, and unique personality brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Willie Askew; his sisters, Diadree Askew-Gist and Cassandra Askew; and his brothers, Alfred Matthews and Glen Askew.

Cherishing his memory are his loving and devoted mother, Katye Askew; his brothers, William Askew of Syracuse, New York, and Jon Mosley of Auburn, New York; and his sisters, Connie Askew, Zina Chandler (Roosevelt), and Paula Straughter, all of Syracuse, New York.

He is also survived by his aunts, Bertha Bradford of Syracuse, New York, Williemae Reese of Cleveland, Ohio, Allean Reese of Auburn, Alabama and Martha Askew of Aurora, Colorado; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Mark will be especially missed by his nephew, Michael Sistrunk, with whom he shared a very special bond.

Though he is no longer with us, Mark's love, kindness, and memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
