Mark James Flaherty, 76, of Syracuse, passed away on July 14, 2026. Born and raised in Syracuse, Mark graduated from Most Holy Rosary, attended St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Photography was one of Mark’s greatest passions. He took his camera everywhere, capturing memories of his family, the people he met, and the places he traveled. He also worked for a time as an aerial photographer. Mark enjoyed writing poetry, playing music, and singing Beatles songs with his siblings. He loved golf, the outdoors, road trips, and never missed a family reunion. Warm, friendly, and personable, he had a gift for telling stories and connecting with people wherever he went.
He is survived by his children, Kim, Ryan, and James; his grandchildren, Shamus, Lily, and Peedie; and his siblings, Ed, Chris (Jerry), Carolyn, Kevin (Mary), Ted, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Flaherty and Nancy Coulter.
There will be no funeral service. A private celebration of Mark’s life will be held for family.
