Mary Ahern, 82, of Cicero, NY; passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Upstate University Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving children and husband. Mary was born in Syracuse, NY, on April 14, 1944 to John and Elizabeth McMahon. Mary was raised in Cazenovia, NY. Some of Mary’s favorite pastimes included playing cards, watching and rooting for Syracuse University college basketball and football, hosting family at her home for dinners and holidays, and spending time with her long-standing friend and neighbor, Diane Cooley. Mary was also a foster parent for several years. Mary and her husband, Michael, spent a lot of time traveling the country by train with their children during their upbringings. Mary also enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Canada with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid storyteller and loved sharing stories about her childhood and family.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Michael Ahern, her children Kelly Cerio (Michael), Jacquie Ahern, Michael (Mikie) Ahern (Amy Rowe), and Aidan Ahern, her grandchildren, Alex Rice, Gabby Cerio, Erin Oaster (James Fleury), Nathan Bliss, Catlyn Bliss, and Aidan Ahern II.
In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her brothers Michael McMahon and Jack McMahon (Marie), and her sister Kathleen Stockton (Lynn).
Services are private for the family. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt. Mary’s warmth, kindness, and love for family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
