Mary Eleanor Evans was born in Norristown Pennsylvania on February 26, 1926, the fifth of seven children in a Quaker family, in the eighth generation on the same farm in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
Mary graduated from Ambler High School and was a member of National Honor Society. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State, then went on to George Washington University in Washington D.C to become a Medical Technologist.
During her time in Washington D.C., she attended a YMCA dance and asked a sailor to dance during a lady’s choice. She and Dayton C. Follett were then married, had a Quaker wedding, spent 40 years together. They had four children, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren with one on the way, and two great great grandchildren.
After retirement, Mary was active in the Syracuse Friends (Quaker) Meeting. She also volunteered at the local library, Beaver Lake Nature Center, and Meals on Wheels.
During her husband’s time in the Navy, the family delighted in living on the Cote D’Azur in France and camping all across Europe. She also enjoyed travelling to Alaska, Hawaii, Great Britain and Paris.
Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Dayton; her youngest daughter, Dale; and her six siblings.
She is survived by her children, Patricia, Donna and Jon; grandchildren, Desiree, Anneka, Lindsay, Azizzi, Chelsea and Shelby; great grandchildren, Zanaria, Dayton, Aiden, Arya and Levi; great great grandchildren, Golden and Reign; sisters in law, Gail and Kathy; and many nieces and nephews, along with their children and grandchildren.
