Mary A. Haynes, 82, passed peacefully on June 2, 2026. Mary was born in Castiglione, Italy to the late Michael and Filomena Fangio. She spent 58 years married to the love of her life, Jerry Haynes, before he passed in 2021. Mary first met Jerry when she worked at Coyne Laundry. She also worked at Syracuse China for many years and then enjoyed working part time in the bakery of Williams grocery store.
Mary loved meeting and talking to new people. She had many friends, that through the years, became like family. Mary and Jerry enjoyed bowling, playing cards, hosting family gatherings, and visiting the Turning Stone Casino to play bingo. Mary was an avid gardener in the summer and went to New Smyrna Beach every winter with her husband. Mary and her husband also loved going on cruises with their lifelong friends Sharon and the late Timothy McNally.
Mary loved cooking and always had to feed anyone who visited. She loved showing others how to make homemade pasta, her delicious meatballs, and Italian cookies. Even though Mary didn’t have any children of her own, she loved and cared for many that thought of her as a second mom.
Mary was a long-time parishioner of Saint Rose of Lima Church. Her faith was an important part of her life.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Jerry Haynes, her parents Michael and Filomena Fangio, sister Dora DeWolfe, sister-in-law Carol Buchalla, and brother-in-law Thomas Giess.
Mary is survived by her sister Angela (Donald) Farewell, sister-in-law Linda Fuller, her nieces and nephews Cheryl (Matthew) Barbeau, Lisa Farewell (Tony Tornabene), Michele (Matthew) Kendall, Jennifer (Terrence) Cheng, Jason (Christina) Cayea, Ryan DeWolfe, Michael (Kristy) Buchalla, Steven Buchalla, Lisa Buchalla, Brenda Buchalla, Kathy (Paul) Larmon, Kimberly (Ron) Light, and many great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are being held on Wednesday, June 10th from 4- 7 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11th at 10:30 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse with a burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
Contributions can be made in Mary’s memory to St. Rose of Lima church or Hospice of CNY.
