Mary Frances "Franie" (LeClair) Patnode, 87, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 19, 2026. Franie was born November 5, 1938, in Churubusco, NY.
Franie spent several years in service to others as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, where her bedside manner brought comfort to countless patients. She also devoted herself to her community through her work with the Neighborhood Watch.
Franie had many friends and enjoyed their company at her local diners, both Stella's North and Stella's West, where her warmth and easy laughter made her a beloved regular.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Patnode Jr., and her brother, Ronald LeClair.
She is survived by her four children: Rita Patnode (John Belge), Mark Patnode (Debbie Spoto Patnode), Pierre "Pete" Patnode (Amy Koplik Patnode), and Collette Patnode Fay (John Fay). She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Pierre, Nicholas, Patrick, Marina, Angel, Kamin, and Kyra; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a cherished place in her heart.
She is further survived by her four sisters: Donna Johnson, Arlene Nichols, Bonnie Freville, and Linda Rossi (Robert Rossi).
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 10am to 12pm, followed immediately by a Catholic Funeral Service at 12pm, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
Franie will be remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Palliative Care Wing at St. Camillus Nursing Home, 813 Fay Road, Syracuse, NY 13219.
