Matthew Richer, born on June 28, 1968, in Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted family man, Matthew’s life was marked by his zest for life, playful spirit, and commitment to those he cherished.
Matthew was an avid kayaker who found joy in exploring the waters and sharing the adventure with friends and family. His fun-loving personality brought light and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a cherished husband, having spent 29 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Rebecca Richer. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and beautiful memories.
As a father, Matthew embraced his role wholeheartedly. He is survived by his children, Selena and Tyler Richer, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and humor. A doting grandfather, he took immense joy in his relationship with his grandson, Jackson, who brought a twinkle to his eye and joy to his heart.
Matthew is also remembered fondly by his sister, Sue "Susie" Liquori, as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Brandi, Jordyn, Tiah, Aliya, Elizabeth, Shelby, Ryane, and Isaiah, all of whom he loved dearly and who admired him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeannette and Rene Richer, and his sister, Kim Richer. They, too, played an essential role in shaping the remarkable man he became, and their memories will forever be intertwined with his legacy.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Matthew's life during visitation and memorial services to be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in Syracuse, NY. The visitation will take place on December 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location.
Matthew Richer will be remembered not just for the joy he brought to those around him, but for the enduring love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit will forever remain a part of their hearts, guiding them through life’s waters with laughter and love.
