Matthew Widger

Matthew Jay Widger, 46, of Syracuse, New York, passed away on July 26, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Born on July 25, 1980, in Syracuse, New York, Matthew was the son of Robert Widger and Karen Johnson. He grew into a hardworking and talented man, building a career as a self-employed carpenter and handyman, where his skill, dedication, and willingness to help others earned him the respect of everyone who knew him.

Matthew was hardworking, kind, loving, and yes, super annoying in the very best way. His presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was the kind of man you could always count on. He gave his time, his talents, and his heart freely, always putting others before himself.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured every moment spent together—watching movies, sharing laughs, enjoying the outdoors, or simply sitting on the steps of his home on Fountain Street.

Matthew had a spontaneous spirit that kept life interesting. He was known for doing crazy, unexpected things that became the stories everyone laughed about for years. His sense of humor, infectious smile, and larger-than-life personality.

Although he loved repairing and building things with his hands, the greatest thing he ever built was the love, strength, and memories he shared with his family and friends. His kindness, generosity, unwavering dependability, and ability to bring light into every situation will never be forgotten.

Matthew is survived by his devoted wife, Angela Widger; his parents, Robert (Kimberly) Widger and Karen Johnson; his siblings, April, Roberta, Danny, Mandy, Robert, Jason, Timothy, Toni, Shana, Melissa (his twin), and Michael; and his cousin, Thomas, who was like a brother to him. He is also survived by his children, Brittani and Dameian; his stepchildren, Tiffany-Marie, Dakota, and Gabrielle; and his beloved grandchildren, Alex, Sofia, Jeremiah, Jack, Maggie, Tobias, Addison, Austin, and Lyla. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents who raised him, Robert and Virginia Widger, whom he lovingly called "Ma" and "Pa."

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Matthew's life during visitation on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in North Syracuse, New York.
