Melissa A. Stevens

Melissa A. Stevens (Hemingway), also known as Missy, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with stage 4 glioblastoma (GBM), on October 25, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on September 8, 1968, Melissa will be remembered as a very loving woman who cared deeply for everyone around her. She brought warmth to those she loved and was known as a jokester who could make people laugh, even during difficult times.

Melissa dedicated much of her working life to Pelco Electronic Components in Cazenovia, where she was employed for 28 years. She also worked for a short time at Anoplate in Syracuse and volunteered for CAVAC for over 20 years. Beyond her formal work, she especially loved spending time helping at her son Jimmy’s diner, Prevo’s Diner, a place that reflected her devotion to family and her enjoyment of staying busy and connected with those she loved.

She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and was a fan of scratch off tickets. Above all else, Melissa was most proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy and were at the center of her heart.

Melissa is survived by her daughters, Tracy and Tanya (Lar); her sons, Jimmy (Shannon), Johnny, Dwane (Jennifer), and Adrian; her stepchildren, Lillian (Jessy), Mikey, and Lisa (Chris). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dylan, Orion (Lynze), Giovanni, Jacob, Jordan (Alicia), Morgan and Devin (Jasmine), along with one great grandchild on the way. She is further survived by her brothers, Edward, Chucky, Tommy, Tony, Mike, and Keith, and by her sisters, Kathy, Tina, and Jody. She will be remembered with love by all who knew her and by the many family members whose lives were brightened by her care, humor, and steady presence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stevens, of over 20 years and her father, Edward Hemingway.

Visitation will be held on November 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at North Syracuse Cemetery, North Syracuse, New York.
