Merle L. Johnson, 100, of North Syracuse, NY, passed peacefully from this life to her eternal heavenly home on Monday August 24, 2026. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family, and her friends, and they loved her and will dearly miss her. She was born in 1926, to the late Frederick and Pearl Ammann of Rome, NY. Before graduating from Rome Free Academy in 1943, she worked for the Mc Laughlin Insurance Co. Before attending college, she worked for Revere Copper & Brass in accounts payable, attended Air Traffic Control School, and worked for the Rome Air Depot in accounting/payroll. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in June 1949 with a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts. After college, she was employed by General Electric for nearly ten years in various accounting positions before starting her family. She was a member of The Gathering Place at North Syracuse Baptist Church since her baptism in 2007 when she received Christ as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed serving as a member of the Ambassadors, Greeters, and Homebound Ministry at her church.
Merle was predeceased by her husband, George Johnson of Ilion, NY, after 49 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her grandson William Johnson. She is survived by her three children Lauren of North Syracuse, Alan (Christine) of Baldwinsville, and Sharon of West Melbourne, FL; her three grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Sarah (Shane) Stewart, and Rebecca (Eamonn) Vaughn; and her three great grandchildren Finnegan, Jonah, and Nora Vaughn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2026 from 9:30am to 11:00am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stokes, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York, The Gathering Place at North Syracuse Baptist Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
