Michael D. Shaffer, 74, of Jamesville, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026 at Crouse Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born on November 3, 1951 to Richard and Aline (Blais) Shaffer in Syracuse, New York.
Michael was affectionately known as the unofficial mayor of Jamesville. A friend to everyone, always ready with a smile, a hello, a story or a helping hand. He had a way of making everyone feel like family and was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
Michael loved his daily routine of taking walks through Jamesville, where he hung out at the Jamesville Depot, Robbie T’s Pizza and the local hardware store. He made friends everywhere he went with his contagious smile, welcoming demeanor and endless jokes. He loved sitting outside, listening to music and conversing with his neighbors.
Michael was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and enjoyed going to Syracuse football and basketball games. He loved going on vacations with family and going out to eat. He especially loved his nieces and nephews.
Michael worked at the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District bus garage for 30 years. He was an extremely hard worker and exceptional employee.
He never let his limitations define him or stand in the way of living life to the fullest.
