Milton Alan Chapin, a beloved educator and dedicated community member, passed away on May 5, 2025, in Syracuse, New York, at the age of 80. He was born on November 4, 1944, in Oneida, NY. Milton distinguished himself as a devoted teacher, imparting knowledge in Secondary Social Studies at Otselic Valley for over 30 years. His impact on the lives of countless students will be remembered by those who had the privilege of being in his classroom.

On June 22, 1966, Milton married Elaine Aspin, with whom he shared a profound love for nearly 60 years. Their partnership was a testament to commitment and companionship through the decades.

Milton pursued his passion for education after graduating high school and earning his Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland. His commitment to learning was evident not only in his professional career but also in his academic endeavors during college, where he authored a paper titled "Spirit House in Georgetown: An Historical & Architectural Research Paper of an Unusual House" that is now housed in the National Archives.

In addition to his educational career, Milton was an active member of his community. He proudly served in the Volunteer Fire Department, first in Cortland and Georgetown, before continuing his commitment in South Otselic as a volunteer firefighter and founder of the fire police program. His dedication to serving others exemplified his caring and smart nature, traits that endeared him to many.

Milton was survived briefly by his loving wife Elaine, who joined him in eternal rest the very next day, May 6, 2025. Milton was also survived by his identical twin brother, Malcolm (Roxine); his sister, Anna Cruikshank; as well as several nieces and nephews, Sandra, Deborah, Rebecca, Kellie, Jeffrey, Shannon, Richard, Sherri, Heather, Wendy and Jenifer. He also leaves behind close friends who were like family, Peg, Julie and Chris, along with numerous extended family members who will cherish his memory.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Viola Chapin Sr.; his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Joan Chapin Jr.; brother-in-law, David and sister-in-law, Gail (Aspin) Griffin.

Milton Alan Chapin's legacy of service, education, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.

In keeping with Milton's wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the South Otselic Volunteer Fire Department in his memory.
