Mouy Kruy

Mouy Kruy, 96, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mouy was born on July 3, 1930, in the Khat Kandal district of Cambodia to Kruy Lor (father) and Uk Ang E (mother).

Mouy’s life was defined by extraordinary courage, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. As a survivor of the Cambodian genocide under the Khmer Rouge, she endured unimaginable hardship and loss. During that time, she became separated from one of her young daughters but never gave up searching until they were reunited. Determined to give her children a future filled with hope and opportunity, Mouy courageously escaped Cambodia with her daughters, Phechsim, also known as Patricia, and Sokkhim, to ultimately build a new life in the United States.

Her courage forever changed the course of her family’s history. The opportunities her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild enjoy today are a testament to the sacrifices she made.

Mouy devoted her life to caring for her family in countless meaningful ways. She took great pride in growing vegetables and herbs in her garden, which became the heart of many cherished Khmer meals shared around her table. Through her cooking, generosity, and quiet dedication, she nourished those she loved. She believed deeply in the importance of education and worked tirelessly to ensure her daughters would have opportunities she herself was never afforded.

Though she lived to the remarkable age of 96, Mouy never allowed her years to become a limitation. She remained adventurous, independent, and eager to create new memories with her family. Her strength and resilience continued to shine throughout every season of her life.

Mouy was preceded in death by her parents and many beloved family members whose lives were tragically lost during the Cambodian genocide, as well as others she loved throughout her lifetime.

She is survived by her loving daughters Phechsim, also known as Patricia Kruy, Sokkhim (Russell) Doyle; her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Raflowski, Aleksander Raflowski, and Megan Raflowski; her cherished great-grandson, Brody Jenkins; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her love, wisdom, strength, and sacrifice.

Having survived unimaginable hardship, Mouy chose to spend the rest of her life to the fullest—in her garden, around her table, and within her family. She taught that strength is not only found in surviving life’s darkest moments but also in continuing to embrace life’s brightest ones. Her love, sacrifice, and enduring spirit will continue to blossom in the generations she leaves behind.

A service for family and friends will be held on August 7, 2026, from 9AM to 11AM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY 13212. Following the service, interment will be at North Syracuse Cemetery on South Bay Rd.
