Listen to Obituary

Ron Hardter and Donna McClain, with deep sadness and heavy hearts, announce the passing of our cherished sister, Nancy J Hardter. She departed from this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Nancy was a loving soul with a passion for flowers and animals. She was known for giving starter plants to anyone who wanted them and would rescue strays (cats and dogs) without thought. Prior to her diagnosis of dementia, her generosity and selflessness made her a pillar of strength and comfort in times of need for anyone she thought could use some support.

Nancy worked for R.E Deitz for many years followed by ten years in California helping her Uncle Ed with various business adventures. One of her fondest memories in California was when Caroll Shelby, designer of the Ford Shelby Mustang and race car driver, came into the restaurant. She often spoke of the hours they spent talking about life in general. When her time in California was over, Nancy returned to Syracuse and worked with her sister, Donna at Excellus Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a Medical Records Clerk. She retired from Excellus.

She was not only a devoted sister but also a beloved daughter, aunt, and friend. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her spirit uplifted everyone she encountered. Family gatherings will forever be marked by her laughter and warmth, and her memory will continue to guide and comfort us in the days ahead.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Ronald Hardter Sr (Nancy) and sister, Donna McClain, brother-in-law, James Payne. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Henry Payne Jr, David Payne and Eileen Musico, Theresa Derham, Karen Leonelli, Kristine Kratz, Michelle Reale, Cindy Schlachter, Michael Leonelli, Ronald Hardter Jr, Richard Hardter, Laurie Lacey and Kimberly Sutliffe.

Nancy was predeceased by her father and mother, George and Harriet Hardter; her siblings, Harriet Payne, Dorothy Leonelli (Terry Leonelli), George Hardter (Eunice Hardter) and Robert Hardter; her brother-in-law, Robert McClain; her niece, Cathy Payne and nephew, Timothy Payne.

As we grieve the loss of our beautiful sister, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. Her love and compassion will remain etched in our hearts forever. Though she is no longer with us in person, her spirit lives on in the memories we share and the lessons she taught us about love, resilience, and hope.

We invite all who knew her to join us in remembering her life and the joy she brought to so many. May her memory be a blessing to all, and may we honor her legacy by carrying forward her kindness and generosity.

Rest in peace, our dear sister. You will be missed, loved, and remembered always.
