Norman D. Propheter

Norman D. Propheter, 86, of Central Square, NY, a passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife and children.

Born on March 4, 1939, in Ellicott, NY, Norm was the son of Woodrow and Marion Wares Propheter. He graduated from Bemus Point High School in 1957 and, shortly after, married the loved of his life, Elaine Schram, on June 15 of that same year. Together they built a loving home in Cicero, NY, where they raised six children.

Norm worked as a set-up man at New Process Gear from 1971 until his retirement in 1998. He was a man who deeply valued family, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling, and spent many cherished days at the family’s camp on Kasoag Lake. After Elaine’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling the country in their RV, eventually becoming snowbirds-wintering in Orange City, FL, and spending summer by the lake in New York.

A devoted animal lover, Norma shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Missy, who was always by his side and brought him comfort, laughter, and companionship throughout the years.

Norm is survived by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Elaine; his sons, Douglas Propheter of Liverpool, NY, and Dennis Propheter of Orange City, FL; his daughters, Diane Summers of Lusby, MD, Janette Bell of North Syracuse, NY, and Donna Hughes (Michael Girard) of Cicero, NY; and David’s partner, Anne Ventura of Clay, NY. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his sister, Beverly Nordstrom of Virginia Beach, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Warren, Allen, and Darryl Propheter; his son, David; daughter-in-law, Cathy; and great-grandson, Seren.

Norm will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his warm heart, his sense of adventure, and the joyful memories he helped create.

 Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 4-6pm. Funeral Services will follow at 6pm.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice CNY.
