Peary Tompkins Sr., 91, of Mallory, NY, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025. He was born on December 5, 1933, and was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
Peary was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol, with whom he shared many cherished years. He is survived by his son, Peary (Lori) Tompkins Jr., daughter, Cheryl Tompkins and her loving partner James Fontana, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peary was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
A true lover of nature, Peary had a passion for gardening. Whether tending to his beautiful houseplants or nurturing his outdoor garden, he found joy in the quiet work of cultivating life around him. His green thumb was matched only by his quick wit and infectious laughter, which he shared freely with those fortunate enough to spend time with him.
Peary’s connection to West Monroe, NY, was deep, and he considered the area home for many years. His love for the community was reflected in his everyday life, as a member of the West Monroe Methodist church, long time member of the West Monroe Historical Society and an osteoporosis instructor.
Peary's humor was one-of-a-kind — always light-hearted, often surprising, with a remarkable ability to make others smile and never short of a good laugh. His ability to make others feel at ease with his gentle jokes and clever observations left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Peary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless others whose lives he touched with his humor, warmth, and kindness.
Services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the West Monroe Historical Society at PO Box 53, West Monroe, NY 13167. To share a memory of Peary or to leave a special message for the family, please sign the guestbook below.
