Listen to Obituary

Randy Smith passed away on March 25, 2026 following a brief illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur E. and Mildred Fay Smith, his brother Ronald W. Smith, and his wife Ellen Kortz. He is survived by his brother Richard Smith (Dolores), his children, Kristy Hassenmayer (Eric), Elena Conklin (Jamie), and BooBoo Bear, his grandchildren Alexis, Dylan, Ryan, and Jace, nieces Stacy Fielder (Greg) and Debra Smith, and nephew Daniel Smith. He is also survived by his closest friend and caregiver, Jason Webb, and his person, Roe Wedeck.

Randy served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years. He was on several ships, including the USS Forrestal, The USS Enterprise, The Wichita, The Mars, and The Flint, as well as shore duty in California and a year in Iceland. He mostly served as a Petty Officer and was an Air Traffic Controller for many of his service years. We all thank you for your service.

Randy enjoyed many things. Music, especially classic rock, was his jam. He loved his movies, mostly classic and anything Star Trek related, and would spend hours talking about them with his brother Dick. He was a big Nascar fan and faithfully watched races on Sundays. He built slot cars and liked to race them. He liked football; his favorite team was the Minnesota Vikings.

Randy was a kind, caring, and humble man. While his circle was not vast, he cherished his people deeply and would do anything he could to help. He was always willing to lend an ear and listen. He had an incredible sense of humor and always had a (corny) joke to share.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
