Roberta J. Burton

July 25, 1922 — July 16, 2025

Roberta joined our Elderwood family, recently, and has since been a great addition to the community. Born on July 25, 1922, in Buffalo, New York, Roberta has lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful contributions to her family and community.

Growing up alongside her brother Raymond and sister Kathlyn, Roberta fondly recalls her childhood days roller skating in the streets, cooking, and rearranging furniture while her mother and sister were out at the market. These early adventures sparked her lifelong creativity and strong Roberta attended Public School No. 12 and later graduated from Hutchinson Central High School in Buffalo. It was at a local roller-skating rink-a favorite pastime of hers-where she met the love of her life, Bill.

The two married in 1946 and built a beautiful life together, raising two daughters, Roberta and Sue Anne. Her husband's military service brought their family to Syracuse in 1964, where they continued to grow and thrive. Roberta takes great pride in her family, which now also includes a son-in-law, and a grandson, both named Howard, and both deeply adored.

Roberta's accomplishments are both admirable and inspiring. She was awarded a medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution, an honor she earned through a teacher's nomination recognizing her exceptional character and achievements. She also held the prestigious role of New York State President of the AMVETS, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to service and community.

Roberta also worked, for 28 years, in an occupation she enjoyed, inspecting microfilm. In 8th grade, Roberta and her friends formed a club called "The Condors"-a group that remained close for decades, supporting one another through marriage, children, and into their later years.

Before joining us at Elderwood, Roberta lived at Park Rose. She has always enjoyed the simple joys of life-arts and crafts, word search puzzles, reading Danielle Steel novels, and, most of all, socializing with others.

Her warmth, wit, and wisdom make her a cherished member of our community. We are truly fortunate to have Roberta as part of our Elderwood family.
