Rosemary A. Mezzatesta

Rosemary A. Mezzatesta, 87, of North Syracuse, passed away on March 6, 2026.

Rosemary was born in Syracuse, New York, on July 23, 1938, to Joseph and Stella Mezzatesta. She retired from General Electric, where she worked as a draftsman on heavy military contracts. Rosemary was proud of her career and often worked countless hours of overtime to help support her family.

Rosemary had a creative spirit and loved teaching her grandchildren, Marissa and Joe, how to draw and paint. Gifting her homemade Italian cookies to family and friends gave her joy. Gardening was also one of her greatest passions; she spent endless hours tending to her backyard flower, vegetable, and herb gardens (with her son Albert J. Merola Jr. and grandson AJ Merola) before dementia took away her ability to do the things she loved. She also had a deep love for the St. Lawrence River and cherished the time spent there with her parents and family, admiring the brilliant sunsets.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Mezzatesta; her mother, Stella Mezzatesta; her brother, Joseph Mezzatesta Jr.; her beloved son, Albert Merola Jr.; and her granddaughter, Miranda Merola.

Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Roselle Merola-Bartolo (Matthew Bartolo); her sister, Julia Baker; and four grandchildren: Marissa Merola (Matthew Morgan), Matthew H. Bartolo (Mazida Ara-Bartolo), Albert J. Merola III (fiancé Jackulyn Liberty), and Joseph R. Bartolo. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Rocco Merola, Franco Morgan, and Saylor Merola.
