Sally R. Butler

Sally R. Butler, 93, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday morning. She lived a life of service as an Onondaga County Public Health Nurse, working with the well-child clinics, bloodmobiles, and various other programs to help the needy. She loved volunteering and acted on various auxiliary groups, and was active in her church, Our Lady of Lourdes in Syracuse. She had a love for the outdoors, including gardening and travel. "Grandma Day," was an important tradition to all, where family and friends would get together to enjoy her cooking. Her passion for her grandchildren led her to attend as many of their functions as possible. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, August J. Butler; her son-in-law, Donald E. Fox; and her brother and sister.
She is survived by her children, Leonora Fox, John A. Butler, and Tom (Stephanie Behler) Butler; a sister, Ann (Peter) Verna; five grandchildren, Andrew Fox, Rachel Heilig, Emily Fox-Squairs, John W. Butler, and Julie R. Butler; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb Fox-Lee, Alexander Fox, Catherine Fox, and Zachary Heilig.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 pm, on Monday at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. Services will be held at 10 am, on Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes, Syracuse, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either Our Lady of Lourdes Church, or the American Red Cross.
