Samuel "Zaz" Mercurio

Samuel “Zaz” Mercurio, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026 at his home.

Zaz enjoyed watching and playing sports and spending time with his family. He was self-employed for the majority of his life, first running a paper business and later providing courier services for a number of local businesses. Most importantly, Zaz was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his family and was never shy in telling others about their achievements (and occasionally his own). He will be dearly missed by his family and lifelong friends.

Zaz was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Alfonsina “Sina” Mercurio. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Katherine (Kevin) Mahar; son, John (Dieanna) Mercurio; grandchildren Maria (Jim) Stark, Melissa (Derek) St. Phillips, Karolyn Mahar, Kaitlin (Moniqué) Mercurio, Johnny (Brianna) Mercurio, Joe Mercurio, and Matt Mercurio; great-grandchildren, Jolene, Dylan, Cole, Lincoln, Dakota, and Phoenix; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 9:00AM at MostHoly Rosary Church with mass to follow at 10:00AM in the church. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the mass at Twin Trees III in North Syracuse.
