Stephen Mitchell

Stephen Mitchell, 82, of Syracuse, passed away on June 12, 2026.

Born in Syracuse on October 19, 1943, to Lawrence and Eleanor Mitchell, Stephen graduated from Syracuse University and later earned a master’s degree from the State University of New York at Oswego.

Stephen married the love of his life, JoAnn, on September 2, 1967. Together they raised three children—Patrick (Andrea, son Joseph), Alicia (Todd, sons Griffin and Derek), and Kenneth (Amy, daughter MacKenzie and son Braeden).

A devoted member of Park Central Presbyterian Church for more than forty years, Stephen found community, purpose, and lifelong friendships within its walls.

Professionally, Stephen was a self-employed financial planner and independent insurance agent. As the owner of Financial Services of Central New York, he helped countless families secure their futures through life insurance, disability coverage, and other financial products. He approached his work with integrity, dedication, and genuine care for the people he served.

Stephen enjoyed playing golf with his buddies; watching both college and professional football and college basketball; and playing games with his family. He loved to laugh and spend time with family. He especially loved being a grandfather, finding immense joy in time spent with his grandchildren.

Stephen was generous with his time, steady in his friendships, and deeply devoted to his family.
