Valerie Jean Shaw, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in her hometown of Syracuse, NY where she was born on April 27, 1952, and raised.

Valerie's early education was marked by dedication and ambition, culminating in her graduation from Central Technical High School, class of 1970. She furthered her education by enrolling in the prestigious Pre Law program at Syracuse University. Her career journey took her through various roles, including work as a paralegal and as a model, which allowed her to travel and experience different cultures around the globe. She was talented in martial arts, competing in tournaments throughout her life, earning a black belt. However, Valerie ultimately found her passion and fulfillment as a devoted mother, sibling and friend.

An individual known for her compassion, Valerie's personality was characterized by her genuine care for others. Valerie's legacy will also be carried on by her deceased family members, her cherished daughter, Nicole Shaw; her mother, Mary L. Bonner; father, Harry Shaw, Sr.; her brother, Michael Bonner; aunt, Bertha Smith; grandmother, Rosa May Ogletree; and by her stepfather, James Bonner.

She leaves behind her daughter, Natisha Shaw and son, Ernest "Benji" Singleton-Shaw Sr.; her twelve grandchildren, Akeem R Saffold-Shaw, Sierra Saffold-Shaw, Nyrasia Sherman, Ashanti Kent, Michael Shaw, Shy-Kier Booker, Shakira Benson, Rosiona Booker, Matthew Shaw, Morgan Shaw, Tanasia Shaw and Ernest Shaw, Jr.; along with nineteen great-grandchildren. Valerie's loving memory is further cherished by her five brothers, Kyle Shaw, Izzy Shaw, Marvin Shaw, Christopher Bonner, and Dashawn Bonner; her six sisters, Margel Shaw, Wanda Alford, Tracy White, Kim Bonner, Mayleen Bonner and Sara Bonner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her partner, Frederick Dawson, also stood by her side throughout her life.

In keeping with Valerie's wishes, services will be held privately.

Valerie Jean Shaw's contributions to her family, friends, and community will not be forgotten. Her spirit and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
