Walter J. Leavery

Walter J. Leavery, 87, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 8, 2025 at the Cottages at Garden Grove. Walter was born in Clayton, NY on May 9, 1938 son of the late Ray and Anna Leavery. Walter retired from Kemper Insurance in Syracuse. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Norma Leavery in 2001, his brothers & sisters; Francis (WWII), William, George, June, Ruth & Helen. Walter was very involved in his community, He coached girls softball and was an umpire for softball. He participated in Boy Scouting and Campfire Girls. He loved camping and any activity his grandchildren were involved in, he was their loudest cheerleader. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his longtime companion, Kay.

He is survived by his son, Scott (Kelly) Leavery, daughter, Dena (James) Meanor, his 4 grandchildren, Alexandra (James Palma), Christopher, James & Joshua, great grandchild, Isabella, sister-in-law, Dianne Leavery, along with many nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to his second great grandchild in October.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 16, 2025 from 4-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday June 17, 2025 10am at Epiphany Parish, 1001 Tulip Street Liverpool. Burial will follow at Liverpool Village Cemetery.
