Edward Carlin, 88 of Brewerton, NY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Ed was born in Newton, NJ, the ninth child to the late James Carlin and Genny Wilgus Carlin.

Ed was a wrestling coach at Syracuse University for over 30 years. He was more than a coach to his wrestlers. He was a mentor and to many a second Dad. His success and love for the sport was recognized for his many awards. Ed was a S.U. Letter Winner of Distinction, inducted into The Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, NYS Coach’s Hall of Fame, NCAA Hall of Fame and The EIWA Hall of Fame.

Ed loved living on Oneida Lake. He enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing with his family. Carlin family reunions were enjoyed over many years at his home. Winters in Florida, after his retirement, meant golf, fishing, walking on the beach, Saturday night dancing and just enjoying life with his wife Pat and friends. Ed spent a lot of time volunteering at Fort Brewerton Historical Society. He was also a member of PHI EPISLON KAPPA of CNY.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat; children, Christine (Jo) Carlin, Maureen (Merritt) Conway, Therese (Scott Erich) Carlin-Erich and Christopher (Anita) Carlin; grandchildren, Catherine Cahill, Brad Cahill, Elizabeth Erich, Mika Carlin, Kai Carlin and Melissa (Chris) Halloran; great-grandchild, Caroline Halloran and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers.

Everyone is invited to his Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rt. 11, Cicero NY at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

Following his Mass, everyone is invited to Jake’s Grub & Grog, in Brewerton, NY for a celebration of Ed’s life at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Cancer Center.
